President's Message
Spring  Greetings  from  Donna  Bauby

Greetings everyone!

Our spring conference on 3/19/10 was a success according to our attendees and  evaluations.
Rhonda Buckholtz from American Academy of Professional Coders came from Pennsylvania to
speak to us about “Surefire Methods for Defensible Coding”. Many of our MAHA members are
finding it beneficial to add Certified Professional Coding credentials to their curriculum vitae.
Rhonda did a great job of explaining the difference between controlling guidelines and mpersuasive
guidelines to ensure all code assignments are accurate. Many members commented how extremely
knowledgeable she was and appreciated her coming from Pennsylvania to speak to MAHA.

Dr. Yenumula and Kathy Kacynski, RN updated us on bariatric surgery options. The video
presentations of the actual laparoscopic procedures were amazing. I agree however with many of
our attendees, sure seems like he could remove some of that subcutaneous fat while in there … but
he reassured us it would be gone quickly.

Attorney Stephen Ryan gave a very interesting presentation on how “Challenging the Insurance
Medical Audit”. While our diverse membership includes both providers and review companies, his
presentation brought up valid issues that we all should be aware of.

Our last presentation was on “Recent Developments in Breast Cancer Treatment” and was a great
way to end the day. We were brought up to date on a very serious subject, but with doses of good
humor to keep life in perspective. Any speaker that can have everyone laughing at the end of the day
is good we have asked this speaker to return in the fall.

The fact that we offered 27.25 contact hours from four different organizations continues to be
appreciated by our members.  Contact hours were offered for nursing, AAMAS, AAPC and CCM.
For the membership conference rate of $95, members have commented our conferences offer a
great value. I hope you agree!

Our next conference will be on October 15th, 2010 at the Okemos Conference Center just off the
Okemos exit on I-96. Our conferences are open to whoever is interested in the conference agenda.
You do not have to be a member to attend.

Save the date and have a great summer!
Donna Bauby, RN, CMAS, CPC-P
